The Most Exciting Shows from Riga Fashion Week SS20

We were thrilled to greet Riga Fashion Week SS20 in town. New collections, new names, fascinating designs – we’ve seen it all during the 5 days long fashion and style festivity and have picked for you the most exciting shows.

This year RFW has chosen the brand new venue – Hanzas Perons – modern, spacious and functional space for all sorts of cultural events.

Day 1

Designer Anna Ledskalnina and Dagamba music band

The RFW opening event was organized by the Baltic Fashion Federation to support the students of the Latvian Art Academy.

For this occasion famous Latvian designers created their exclusive T-shirts, all the profits from which will go to LAA Fashion Department to help young talents in creating and presenting their collections.

Limited Edition T-Shirt presentation took place in a popular Spice Shopping Mall, attended and supported by renowned fashion artists  – Anna Ledskalniņa (brand Anna Led), Dace Krievina-Bahmane (brand Dace Bahmann), Yulia Malahova (brand MCouture), Agnese Narņicka (brand One Wolf), Marina Doroshenko (brand ArtJam) and popular musicians  – Dagamba, Markus Riva, Triana Park, Dvines and Aminata Savadogo.

Day 2

RFW Day 2 was highlighted with the first runway Show by MCouture brand.

Designer Yulia Malahova presented her new SS20 collection “Goodbye, мой мальчик” with a dashing choice of bright red as a protagonist of the colour palette, combined with more muted neutral tones.

Full of long wavy dresses, the collection is preaching femininity, romantic chic and independence of an urban woman.

Closing Day 2 was an outstanding Show by Ksenia Danilova, who demonstrated conceptual collection of her art hats “Subsea” in the “Imagehouse” venue.

Artistic designs, attention to details and a great variety of materials have had their magical effect on the fashion crowd.

Day 3

Our favourite Show from RFW Day 3 was a magnificent new collection “SILK” by Katya Katya London

Beautiful gowns were miraculously transforming right on the runway in front of the excited audience.

Designer Katya Shehurina herself was fixing those angelic white silk dresses with organza mantles decorated with feathers and flower details.

Day 4

Day 4 was the busiest one!

It started with the Show by Riga Fashion Week debutant – brand Selina Keer.

Designer Svetlana Kairova presented the capsule collection “Blue inspiration” filling up the room with all shades of the famous Picasso’s “blue period”

Collection’s headliner – linen was accompanied by cotton, eco leather and organza, radiating the light of the clear morning sky across the show hall.

Our next pick – undoubtedly, for its elegance – ANNA LED‘s new collection “Nordic Riviera”.

The designer’s signature pleats and drapes crafted in chiffon and linen of earthy natural colours were all over the runway.

The comfort and practicality come in tweed jackets, relaxed cardigans and wavy dresses created for SS20 collection.

Collaboration with the hat designer Ksenija Danilova brought some final touches – straw hats and eye catching macrame braids made the engaging total spring looks.
Special attention of the RFW Day 4 went to daring VOLGA Vintage  – vintage fashion store with a bold concept of discovering and picking pre-owned goods both from famous brands and unique no-name pieces for their collections.
This season VOLGA has thrown not one, but two Shows at the same day.
First show took place at the Latvian Artists’ Union building.
The second – at the noisy RFW Afterparty at the CoyoteFly nightclub, where all the brand’s extravaganza bloomed in the right atmosphere.
The day’s closing Show by “Amoralle” was a true celebration of fearless femininity and sexuality.

Seductive gowns for strong confident women, whose freedom is not just in their looks but in everyday choices, were shown on a richly decorated runway with flower compositions and soft carpets all over.

The collection invites each and every woman to enjoy its chic and lavish designs made of silk, soft velvet and alluring lace, enriched with bows and feather decor.

Day 5

The last RFW Day traditionally started with kids fashion shows.

Our personal favourite was Rock and Mouse, who have thrown the sweetest Show with lovely tiny models picking up all the audience’s smiles and tears of joy.

The brand creates clothes and accessories for children – from newborns to 10 year olds – so the runway couldn’t possibly be any cuter!

Rock and Mouse brand is inspired by the children’s urge to explore the world around them and to express themselves, and demonstrates that “practical” doesn’t need to be “boring”.

For spring/summer season of 2020 the brand presented stylish yet childish designs using quality fabrics in earthy colours with original floral prints by local artists.

Lithuanian brand Zefyras stood out this RFW season with passionate, truly mind-blowing choice of colours.

Structured designs, unusually textured fabrics and bright colour palette are reaching out to your feelings and desire of self-expression.

NONAME Atelier Show was a real blast!
Energetic, fierce and rebellious.

Designers Alona Grevcova and Veronica Nikitenko used a lot of men’s outfit elements, such as masculine suits and trousers, which have successfully set in the women’s wardrobe and brought comfort.

Fabrics are of the highest quality, colours are bright and looks are versatile.

The very last RFW Show as always is getting the biggest attention.
This year that was SS20 collection “Adequate Feminism” by NOLO

Leading designer Viktorija Joniene in her each collection carries out a strong message, expressing her point of  view on an important subjects.

New collection and Show were created to break down mass stereotypes about feminists as an unhappy, aggressive and lonely women, who hates men.

With an inherent sense of humor the designer widely used ironic prints:

“I don’t hate men”, “Want prosecco and equality”, “Look me in the eyes” and others.
Two kissing brides in the end have made some noise and will definitely hold the thoughts and talks around the NOLO Show for quite some time!

This Riga Fashion Week season undoubtedly was a celebration of self-confidence, independence and freedom of women’s choice. We at BOLD strongly support the idea of individuality, free will to choose whom you want to be and to express it through your own style!

Look at all the diversity of designs – now is the best time to stand out, be different and make a difference.

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the organizers, we enjoyed 31st Riga Fashion Week a lot. Venues, runways, stage sets, music and video support, make-up and hair work – every detail left a mark in the heart of the fashion lovers. A lot to be proud of and to desire for more!
